Mudeford Sailing Club

Be aware of Crime and give your Eyes a chance

During the Mudeford Sailing Club AGM. 23rd October 2009 I brought to the attention of the limited number of members in attendance, the increased amount of crime now prevalent in the Christchurch Harbour.

In the past summer months there were over 21 crimes of vandalism and theft of which only 1 offence resulted in a conviction by the Dorset Police. I now want to reach all members and a larger audience via our magazine Buoy 6, as I cannot in any other way stress the importance of this information.

This information was given to me whilst at a meeting with the Christchurch Harbour Watch Committee, of which I have been a long standing member, plus Dorset Police representatives who also attend every meeting, they are now asking for our help, if you see anything of a suspicious nature or activity, no matter how trivial it may appear, please report it.

So they have launched an incentive called Project Kraken, if you are interested I have more information with a leaflet issued by the Dorset Police, asking for your name, address and email and if you own a boat what class name and number, these details are for their records only, in return they will send to you details of recently committed unsolved crimes in our area via your email address.

I can hear you now saying to yourself, but I only have a Dinghy surely that’s not a target to get stolen or damaged, why should I get involved.

Well this is the bad news, which will affect us. Many marine insurance companies are becoming more aware of the increase of crime in Christchurch Harbour and Rivers. Therefore, do not be surprised if you are either refused insurance cover or receive an increase in your next premium. Somebody has got to pay and eventually it will be us the law abiding citizen.

So let us try and help, I have the leaflets also an Emergency Data Card available, with contact telephone numbers, you do not need to remember these numbers, just put them with your contact list on your mobile phone.

I am Tony Collins. If you want to contact me,
