...and more on the rules

We had an interesting case in the Autumn Saga where a boat wanted to retire because “the crew was seen out of the boat when we found ourselves aground near Blackberry Island. He pulled the boat forward - apparently this is not allowed, but you are allowed to pull it backwards!”

But is this right? I had never hear of this rule so I looked up “grounding” in the index of the RSS 2009—2012 and at Rule 42.3 (g) it says

"To get clear after grounding or collision with another boat or object, a boat may use force applied by the crew of either boat and any equipment other than a propulsion engine"

So, when Mike pushed himself clear of Andy Williams after they collided following the latter’s capsize, he was not breaking a rule, and S** B****n was not breaking a rule either when Al*c pushed them clear of the sandbank.

After all, if you go aground during a tack at Blackberry, you can hardly push clear backwards, eh?

Not sure this qualifies though - Ed
