Masters sailing with phil sowden

My report?  Yawwwwn.  Ughhh.  Ouch!

There were 119 boats in all, 73 of which were standard rigs, I think, the balance being Radials – barring Kate, being the sole 4.7.

We don’t know how lucky we are, launching and recovering up Argyle Road.  After 3 long races in 25 knots (over 30 according to one rib crew, but I don’t believe that) – hauling a Laser up a steep shingle beach is a daunting prospect!

We all did ok – Kate was brilliant in completing so many races.  She’d have had some good results on handicap, but sadly, this didn’t apply.  Alan (Tarrant) had the best result of us, with several top-10 positions.  Both Dave (Radial) and I (standard) had our moments of glory – he having led their last race for the first lap, while I was 2nd round the first mark in one of the light-wind races (finishing 8th, which was ok).  I’m guessing something like… Alan – 7th, Dave – 12th, myself 30th and Kate – an enjoyable weekend!

182485 Phil Sowden in 25 kts at Whitstable - I think it must be the leeward mark, so he has to gybe NOW!
