We have decided to move Buoy 6 further away from the jetty. This is being done for 4 reasons: to avoid antagonising owners of moored boats and endangering them when they are rowing across the channel; to make the turning mark safer for those racing by putting it in clearer and deeper water and to reduce the Club’s liability should there be an accident in the vicinty of Buoy 6. It also makes it easier to set courses that avoid the shallow water off Blackberry Point.
OODs should just set course as normal. Every course will finish past the Jetty, leaving the new finish mark to port. Some of the possible course variations are shown below - OODs are requested to take these into immediate effect.
Racing on weekdays and during racing from October through to March, when there is less movement among the moored boats, may use the Club Jetty startline, but it is not to be used on Spring, Summer or Autumn Series racing from now on.
Course setting. OODs are requested to avoid setting courses that cross shallow areas. This makes racing unfair, and may cause damage to boats. The principle legs to avoid are:
Buoy 6 to 3 (better to go 6, 8, 3) Buoy 6 to 9 (better to go 6,8 or 6,7,9)
As you can see below, we have designated an area “Out of Bounds” during the finish of all racing in order to avoid the high-risk area.
