Note that there are a number of trial PNs, mainly for crewed boats such as the Laser 2000 racing without spinnaker or assymetric (RYA 2S0 configuration). These boats are at a disadvantage when racing in the Harbour, which is really too shallow for them to sail efficiently. Trial Numbers are reviewed annually on the issue of the new RYA PN list.
In 2010 the RYA changed a large number of dinghy PNs, responding to input from Sailwave results software. Even old favourites like the Laser, Radial, Mirror and Finn did not escape. In the Finn’s case, it’s a faster PN - most of the others are slower.
